BLACK FUTURES

Hart House, University of Toronto

Black Futures is a series of programs using the lens of Afrofuturism to explore and present arts, dialogue and well-being at Hart House.

For this rebranding of the program, I focused on incorporating the present, future, and more traditional aspects of culture into the imagery, as Black Futures speaks in tandem to these three aspects and showcasing them through a diverse offering of programming.

I used the three central figures in the imagery to represent contemporary black culture, afrofuturism and a more traditional/historic view. I combined these three elements into a futuristic landscape, with the eclipse representing the reveal and emergence of the three to create something new. Yellow was chosen as the main branding colour as its a prominent colour in African culture, along with a rich black.

Future events and programs under the umbrella of Black Futures programming used the same colour and aspects of the imagery to relate back to the overall branding of the main image.
